Tigress carcass found at Burapahar forest range of Kaziranga National Park

News update Kaziranga: A bad news for wildlife fraternity comes from Kaziranga, Assam. A tigress was found dead at Burapahar forest range of Kaziranga National Park. Forest officials of KNP recovered the corpse near the Janta forest camp. According to sources it is suspected that this two year old tigress died one day earlier in a fight with other tiger. The post-mortem of the dead body was conducted and the carcass was buried by forest officials and veterinarians.

Kaziranga National Park Director P. Shivakumar and District Forest Officer Ramesh Kr. Gogoi were present at the spot to ensure that the post-mortem and burial were completed as per guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). It was stated by veterinarian Dr Pranjit Basumatary that the carcass bore injuries, and all those injuries were inflcited during attack by another tiger. He also stated that the bones of the head of the tiger were also found broken. In the current year, it is the fourth tiger that has died in the Kaziranga National Park and tiger reserve that has been the pride of Assam
