Kaziranga National Park is partially open in May and October, depending on weather and flood conditions. The main safari season runs from November to April when all ranges operate on schedule.
Jeep Safari for Indian travellers costs around INR 3,700–5,500 per jeep (up to 5 persons) depending on range; for foreign tourists it is around INR 7,500–9,700. Two full days are ideal to explore Kaziranga National Park — one day for Jeep Safari, and a second day for Elephant Safari plus a local visit to a tea garden or the Biodiversity Park.
There are nearly 2,500 one-horned rhinoceros in Kaziranga, and rhino sightings are very common during safari in the right season.
Both are excellent ways to explore Kaziranga. Elephant safari often brings you closer to rhinos with minimal disturbance. Jeep safari covers more ground and is better for landscapes and distant wildlife. Many visitors do both on separate days.
There are many good hotels and resorts on the outskirts of Kaziranga National Park, especially around Kohora. The park is popular with wildlife enthusiasts, so book accommodation well in advance.
Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park is approximately 217 km by road (about 4–5 hours). Jorhat airport is closer at roughly 97 km.
