Kaziranga National Park is a beautiful medley of fauna, avifauna and flora. The best possible way to witness this beautiful amalgamation is by booking a jeep safari to explore the diversity of this renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The jeep safari in Kaziranga National Park takes about 2 hours round trip and operates on both morning and evening shifts. The safari expedition begins at about 7:30 AM and the morning slots end at 11:30 AM — there are two morning slots of 2 hours each.

Securing prior approval from the park authorities is essential before embarking on an adventure in Kaziranga National Park. Private vehicles are not allowed to enter the national park premises. Instead, visitors must hire a registered jeep with booking centres at Kohora and Bagori — community-driven initiatives managed by local youth from surrounding villages.

A jeep safari is more than just a mode of transportation; it is the gateway to an unforgettable wildlife experience. The jeeps, with their elevated seats and open design, offer an unmatched vantage point for observing Kaziranga's diverse fauna — ideal for photography and a deep connection with dense forests and wide-open grasslands.

The Experience of Kaziranga Jeep Safari

Embark on an exhilarating jungle safari in an open jeep, where you'll have the opportunity to search for the iconic one-horned rhinos, majestic tigers, elephants, jackals, langurs, monkeys, and various species of deer. Kaziranga is also home to a wide array of domestic and migratory bird species, making every moment in the wild memorable.

The park is divided into several safari zones, and you may need one or two days to thoroughly explore all that it has to offer. Jeep safaris are led by experienced wildlife professionals who guide tourists through these thrilling excursions.

For those focused on spotting animals, a jeep safari is the most cost-effective way to explore Kaziranga's rich flora and fauna. If your budget allows, upgrading to a 4×4 Gypsy safari provides enhanced comfort and the ability to navigate deeper into the wilderness.

Book well in advance: To secure your preferred zone within Kaziranga National Park, plan and reserve safaris at least 2–3 months ahead of time.

Central Range

Central Range or Kohora Range

The Central Zone of Kaziranga National Park is the most prominent area for ecotourism within the Kaziranga forest. The entrance to this zone is conveniently located approximately 2 km from the National Highway, accessible via the village of Kohora. This zone, extending across the southern riverbed of the Brahmaputra River, is renowned for its rich wildlife and diverse landscapes.

The wetlands, water bodies, and elevated areas covered in lush greenery create an ideal habitat for various bird species, making it a premier destination for birdwatching. Jeep safaris in the Central Zone are conducted in two shifts. Disembarking from the jeep during the safari is strictly prohibited. Exceptional opportunities include one-horned rhinoceroses in the grasslands, herds of elephants, and a wide array of other native species.

Eastern Range

Agratoli Range or Eastern Range

The Agaratoli Range of Kaziranga National Park is located on the eastern side of the park, adjacent to the National Highway near Agaratoli village. This zone is particularly popular among adventure enthusiasts and wildlife photographers due to its untouched natural beauty and diverse wildlife.

During a jeep safari in this area, visitors can frequently observe grazing rhinoceroses within dense, bushy forests, as well as wild buffalo and herds of elephants from a distance. As there is no elephant safari available in this zone, exploration of the eastern part of Kaziranga is exclusively conducted via jeep safari.

Western Range

Bagori Range or Western Range

The Bagori Ecotourism Range of Kaziranga National Park is situated in the western part of the forest and is widely regarded as the premier zone for wildlife sightings. This area is characterized by its breathtaking landscape, teeming with lush greenery and a diverse array of wildlife species.

A jeep safari through the Bagori zone provides excellent opportunities to observe rhinoceroses, elephants, swamp deer, buffalo, and numerous other wild animals in their natural habitat. Both jeep and elephant safaris are organized in this zone by the forest authorities. The entry gate to the Western Zone is located in the village of Bagori.

Burapahar Range

Burapahar Range

The Burapahar Tourism Zone of Kaziranga is located approximately 40 km from the park's Central Zone. The entrance is in the village of Ghorakati along the National Highway — the initial zone reachable when journeying from Guwahati to Kaziranga by road.

Visitors can explore through a jeep safari, with the option to trek through the area as well. Jeep safaris begin at Rhinoland Park in Ghorakati. The hilly terrain, coupled with dense greenery, makes this area particularly appealing to bird enthusiasts. Notable wildlife includes the Hoolock Gibbon and the Capped Langur, along with a wide variety of bird species.
